YOUTH IN MUSIC

 

PURPOSE:                

  • To provide student an opportunity to present a recital program of contrasting repertoire.

ELIGIBILITY:            

  • Students of all ages, children through adults, who meet the repertoire requirements, are welcome.  The  teachers must be members of SMEA in good standing.  Students of nonmember teachers will not qualify.

REPERTOIRE:          

  • A total of 3  memorized pieces in 3 different styles; no arrangements allowed; total performance time 10-20 minutes.  A single movement of a Sonata or Dance Suite constitutes a piece.
  • It is recommended that teachers check with the Chair person well before audition on acceptability of chosen repertoire.

ADJUDICATION: 

  • By two SMEA members.

AWARDS:                

  • Personalized plaque.

  • An opportunity to perform a short program in a SMEA Youth in Music Winner Recital in December.

  • Performance may include new repertoire not used for audition, and/or all, part, or none of repertoire used for audition.

  • Teacher is to submit the repertoire to the recital chairperson well in advance of the audition date.

  • Each of the three top winners will receive a $125 check from SMEA - The Frank Dollak Memorial Fund..
  • Youth in Music audition winners are required to perform at the Youth in Music Recital to receive their awards. 

REGISTRATION:  October 15 - October 30, 2021.  

AUDITION DATE/LOCATION: 

  • Send video links to Chair by November 19th, 2021.
  • Please contact chairperson for details.

WINNERS' RECITAL:

  • Sunday, December 12, 2021 at 3:00 pm.  Zoom Live Performance Recital.

ENTRY FEE:

  • $85 per entry; one check per teacher; payable to SMEA.   Duet teams please add an extra $25.
