Category 1: (Music Major in College)
This scholarship is affiliated with SMEA - Student Evaluation Program. It is available only to graduating high school seniors who will major in a music-related program at college in the 2022-2023 school year.
Student eligibility:
1. Graduating high school senior
2. Participated and received Gold Medal from SMEA Student Evaluation Program this year
3. Received a total of at least 3 years of Gold Medals from SMEA Student Evaluation Program
4. Majoring in a music-related program at college in the 2022-2023 school year
Teacher eligibility:
1. SMEA member in good standing
2. SMEA member for at least 3 years
How to apply:
No application fee.
The SMEA member must apply for this scholarship for their student candidate: Please click on the link

to fill the application form for category #1, then send all supporting documents, files and video link in ONE organized email to the coordinator.
The supporting documents or files include:
1. At least 2 (two) pre-recorded pieces via YouTube video. The repertoire must be in different eras and styles.
2. Summit a 1000-1200 word essay: "How were you inspired to major in a music-related program in college, and what are your plan(s) to serve in the music community during the college year?"
3. 2 (two) recommendation letters - one from the current private instrumental teacher and one from either a high school music teacher or school counselor.
4. Proof of receiving at least 3 Gold Medals (Evaluation Reports or photos of Gold Medals with year shown), including the current year.
5. Official proof from the department/college where the candidate will attend and major in a music-related program in the 2022-2023 school year.
Announcement:
The Liu Family Scholarship committee will review the applications and announce the recipient(s) by May 31st.
Award:
$1500 scholarship and a certificate to each recipient. Up to three recipients for the year.
The 2022 scholarship recipient(s) may be invited to perform at an SMEA event.
Consent:
1. Any recipient who decides not to major in a music-related program during their freshman year of college must return the scholarship to SMEA-Liu Family Scholarship.
2. The scholarship recipient and the parents of the recipient give permission to the Shore Music Educators Association (SMEA) to use photographs or videos of the recipient with appropriate captions in SMEA publications, website, social media or newspapers for the purpose of promotion for Shore Music Educators Association.

Category 2: (Non- Music Major in college)
This scholarship is affiliated with SMEA - Student Evaluation Program. It is available only to graduating high school seniors who will major in any non-music related program at college in the 2022-2023 school year.
Student eligibility:
1. Graduating high school senior
2. Participated and received Gold Medal from SMEA Student Evaluation Program this year
3. Received at least 3 years of Gold Medals from SMEA Student Evaluation Program. Additional Gold Medals qualify students for more scholarship money.
4. Majoring in any non-music related program at college in the 2022-2023 school year
Teacher eligibility:
1. SMEA member in good standing
2. SMEA member for at least 3 years

5. Official proof from the department/college where the candidate will attend in the 2022-2023 school year.
